telecommunication, tropospheric scatter station
Terminal site for the BC Tel troposcatter telecommunication system which stretched down the British Columbia coastline to Port Hardy via Trutch Island. In addition to its civilian uses, the network was also used by the USAF as part of the communication relay chain for the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System, which officially terminated at the White Alice station on the North side of Annette Island. The three sites were manned by BC Tel personnel from 1961 through the network deactivation in the late 1980s. By 1995 most sites were demolished, Annette Island included.
