Part of a four-station rearward troposcatter communications chain from the Lady Franklin Point DEW Line site, the Hay River Site was the terminal station where phone communications were transferred to and from landlines. The RCAF operated the site until 1975 when it was transferred to Canadian National Telecommunications (CNT) before closing in 1981.
