One of many results of Consolidating Schools. Gibson Southern opened in the 1974-75 School year to replace the aging Owensville-Montgomery, Haubstadt, and Fort Branch Marlette High Schools. Gibson Southern was constructed according to the going theory of the day that out-of-reach windows would reduce distraction. This construction earned it some rather unpleasant nicknames like the "South Gibson Prison" or the Gibson Southern "Hard Slammer", used to replace "High School." Gibson Southern is to undergo a $1-2 million refit and expansion to accomodate the rapid growth of the South Gibson Area and to remove those eyesore windows and move the schools office to where it should have been in the first place instead of in the middle of the west wing. Gibson Southern's Marching Band has won at least two state titles and has been to the state finals at least 12 times. The Lady Titan Softball Team has won two state titles in 2003 and 2005 and three runner-ups in the last 7 years. The Lady Titans Basketball Team runnered up in 2003. K-12 Student body of 720 students.
Addendum:
The Marching Titans now have three state titles in class C as of Saturday, 20 October 2007.
