From 1835 until 1934 the fountain was located in Lubyanka Square. It was replaced by a statue of Felix Derzhinsky, a prominent revolutionary leader in the Communist movement and the founder of the CHEKA (the All Russian Commission for Combating Counter-Revolution, Sabotage and Speculation).
