Captain Oliver Filley was a prominent farmer and tin-ware manufacturer who achieved much success in selling the material. Filley served as a captain in the Connecticut Militia during the War of 1812. Filley's home, built for his son Jay, is conventional in style but unusual in plan, consisting of two intersecting wings forming an "L" shape, like two simply-shaped houses fused together. The land that once made up Filley's farmstead is now known as LaSalette Park and is owned and maintained by the town of Bloomfield as open parkland.
