This dairy farm was the site of the United States' first school dedicated entirely to agriculture and farming. The Cream Hill Agricultural School operated from 1845 to 1869 in portions of the complex's main farmhouse. Mid 19th century additions to the northwest corner of the house, which contained classroom space and a laundry/dormitory, have subsequently been demolished, but the rest of the main house along with some original agricultural outbuildings still stand. In addition to its significance as the country's first agricultural school, Cream Hill also served as a model for Connecticut's land-grant college, which is now known as the University of Connecticut.
