This house was rebuilt around 1836 on the ruins of an earlier mid-18th century structure that burned. That earlier structure was also a house but was additionally operated as a tavern by its owner, Asa Barnes. General Rochambeau was known to have visited the tavern as he led the Continental Army south during the Revolutionary War.
