1,800-acre park listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The mountainous and heavily wooded tract of land was donated to the city of Meriden in the 1890s by Walter Hubbard, president of the Bradley & Hubbard Manufacturing Company with the stipulation that it be used as a park open to the public at no charge. Mirror Lake and its surrounding area at the extreme south end of the park was developed to the designs of Frederick Law Olmsted, the renowned landscape architect best known for New York's Central Park. There have been modern intrusions to the park, most notably the construction of Interstate 691 in the 1960s. Additionally, a section of the western edge of the park is used commercially as the site of radio antennas.
