New Ulm is a city in Brown County, Minnesota. The population was 13,522 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Brown County.

New Ulm was founded in 1854 by German colonists coming from Chicago and Cincinnati. A post office was established in 1856. It was incorporated as a town in 1857, as a borough in 1870, and as a city in 1876. It received its present charter on March 1, 1887. Holding true to its German roots, New Ulm was the home to five breweries by the turn of the century.

New Ulm was almost completely burned during the Sioux uprising of 1862.
