c. 8500 BC–7370 BC; Jericho established with 2000 inhabitants living in mud-brick houses covering 6 acres and protected by the Wall of Jericho.

Jericho is one of the oldest cities on Earth. Jericho is mentioned repeatedly in the Torah, Bible, and Koran. The present city was captured by Israel after the Six-Day War in 1967. It was the first Arabic city handed over to Palestinian Authority control in 1994, in accordance with the Oslo accords.
