The old bridge over the Tigris at Hasankeyf was built by the city's Artuqid rulers between 1147 and 1167. It spanned the Tigris north of the town with four arches, supported by two large piers set up within the river's stream. The bridge partly collapsed sometime between 1656 and 1673, and remained in ruined condition. In 1967 a new bridge was erected to its east. The ruins of the old bridge were submerged by the rising levels of the Ilısu Dam Reservoir in 2020.
