Reservations for Rock Creek Hollow
To schedule camping and other events at Rock Creek Hollow, please contact the Mormon Handcart
Historic Sites at 307-328-2953.
Facilities at Rock Creek Hollow are provided for general use of the public and include permanent
restrooms, porta-potties, campsite locations with benches and tables, a hand pump well with potable
water, and two amphitheaters that can accommodate 500 people for presentations, firesides, or
testimony meetings.
During weekends between mid-June and mid-August it is not unusual for several groups of 300 to
400 people to be camped at Rock Creek Hollow. There is plenty of room for all who wish to stay but
it will be necessary to be very flexible, patient and courteous towards all visiting the area.
ROCK CREEK HOLLOW RULES
1. Camping is allowed in designated campgrounds only. These areas are only located on the north
side of the road. This is the side opposite the location of the gravesites.
2. Fires can be built only in the fire rings that are provided and in the amphitheater fire circle.
Please bring your own firewood, do not burn your trash in the fire rings and carry out items from
the fire rings that do not burn.
3. Do not drink the water from Rock Creek. There are many cattle in the creek upstream.
4. No motorcycles or four-wheelers are allowed on the property off maintained roads.
5. Please close all gates after you have gone through them.
6. Rock Creek Hollow is surrounded by State, Bureau of Land Management, and private land.
Please do not leave the property other than on county roads.
7. Please keep children from climbing on the cliffs and hills. The rocks are very unstable and can
dislodge, causing a serious fall.
8. All automobiles, trucks, buses and recreational vehicles must be parked in the designated parking
areas. This helps in providing easy access to all who wish to visit the site. When planning your
stay also plan on having to pack your equipment a short distance–200 yards at the most.
9. No long-term camping is permitted on the property. A usual stay should not extend beyond three
nights.
10. Preference for the campground will be given to those with a reservation. Day visitors are always
welcomed and other campers are welcome provided there is room. Please be very respectful to all
visiting and staying at Rock Creek Hollow.
11. Please observe and respect the purpose for which the land is maintained. Rock Creek Hollow is a
cemetery. Please maintain a reverence for those who are buried here.
12. Be courteous of others at the campground. Please no early morning wake-up calls over a sound
system or by bugle. Also, generators needed to provide refrigeration for food purposes can be
very disturbing to groups having firesides or those trying to sleep. Therefore, please move
refrigeration trucks or any running generators to the parking area (just east of the campground) by
8 p.m. They can then be moved back into place the next morning.
13. There are no trash facilities at the site therefore DO NOT leave any trash.
