condominium, 1990_construction
5-story postmodern residential building completed in 1990. Designed by Joseph Wasserman, it is clad in the same materials as the highrise facing Columbus Avenue, and the corresponding low-rise townhomes across the block on 89th Street. The facade is alternately clad in red brick and six projecting sections (with angled ends) of beige stone tiling. Fronting the five non-projecting red-brick sections are low walls of beige stone tiling, enclosing landscaping. The exceptions are the westernmost and 3rd-from-west of these sections, where the low stone walls instead enclose basement service entries. The main entrance is in the 3rd projecting section from the east, which is wider than the others. A recessed glass wall at the ground floor, with glass double-doors, is approached by a set of grey stone steps on the left, and a wheelchair elevator on the right, separate by a wall segment; the entry is covered by a peaked, burgundy canvas canopy. Above the canopy, the 2nd & 3rd floors are also recessed, and clad in dark-grey painted stone, the only facade area not in beige stone tiles or red brick. This area has two bays of square openings with offset double-windows above vents. To either side the projecting stone section has a bay of double-windows (with white metal mulliins), and angled ends with single-windows. Above, the top two floors have five bays of double-windows, and single-windows in the angled ends. As with each stone section, there are concrete floor plates between each floor, and a grey concrete cornice at the roof line of those that extends to the top floor (two of them only reach the 4th floor).
The stone section to the east of the entrance section has two bays of double-windows and single-windows in the angled ends. At the 5th floor it sets back and has recessed balconies fronted by red metal railings between beige stone posts. The easternmost section has one bay of double-windows and a single-window in the angled west end; the east end adjoins the 2-story extension of the apartment tower next door. The projecting section to the west of the entrance matches the one on the east, with two bays of double-windows and recessed balconies on the 5th floor. It is followed by another section with two double-window bays (and single-windows in the angled ends) that extends to the roof line, and the west end section has one bay of double-windows and single-windows in both angled ends, the western one overhanging the ground floor. All of the ground-floor windows have iron grilles, and there are vents below many of the double-windows. The brick sections all have two bays of wide single-windows, with vents below one windows in each pair.
The building contains 58 condominium units, and there is a garden at the west end.
