The four-story brick corner house was constructed in 1894 by architect N.D. Strukov.

After arrival from abroad in August, 1900 the composer A.N. Skryabin lived in this house with his family. He resided here until February, 1904. During this period two of his children were born and wrote twenty large musical compositions including his 2nd and 3rd symphonies, a sonata № 4, etc.

Before revolution here resided the progressive publicist V.A. Krandievsky, whose daughter Natalia became the wife of the writer A.N. Tolstoy. She served as the prototype for the image of Katya in "Purgatory". In Krandievsky's apartment there were many meetings of «the Club of the Moscow writers» whose members included N. Veresayev, A. Bely, I.A. Bunin and others. The other daughter of Krandievsky, Hope became a well-known sculptor, whose works decorate the facade of the State library now named after Dostoyevsky.
