Founded in 1995 as the Chris Gonzalez Library and Archives, the collection collection currently includes over 7,000 titles and a vast archive of local and national LGBTQ+ publications. The library is also the proud recipient of the popular Bob and Margaret Green drag scene video collection. Other notable items in the archive is a collection of more than 200 t-shirts from legions of LGBTQ+ pride festivals and parades across the U.S., valuable artwork by local artists, LGBTQ+ paraphernalia, mementos, and rare collectibles.

In 2017, Indy Pride entered into a partnership with the Indianapolis Public Library to receive most of the book and video materials, curate, and house them at Central Library. The newly christened Chris Gonzalez Collection was unveiled in a permanent display of the Simon Reading Room in September 2019. Additionally, patrons can search for these materials using keywords, and identify them with a special plaque inserted into each piece. The institution was previously housed at the Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis (located about 0.5-miles southeast in The Academy Building).
The place is located in Central Library
