Historic archival collection consisting of over 200,000 photos operated by the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation & Museums. In the 1970s, a Nassau County historian uncovered more than 12,000 images -- the complete works -- of famed architecture photographer Mattie Edwards Hewitt sitting in a box on the side of the road in Nassau. Hewitt's stunning images of Long Island's Gold Coast brought her fame during the 1920s-30s.
