Gurudwara Gyan Godri (Haridwar)

India / Uttaranchal / Haridwar / Govindpuri
place with historical importance, gurudwara, place of worship

Here is a Gurudwara Gyan Godri, exactly opposite Prem Nagar Ashram Ghats, Haridwar. During First Udasi Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited at Ganga ji river then a conversation took place. Some people were throwing ganga water to their hosts (souls of expired relatives called Pitter ). But instead of throwing ganga water towards Sun, Guru Nanak Dev Ji started throwing ganga water in opposite site/direction ignoring the sun. Having seen such contradictive action Pandits asked why you are doing this action. Guru Ji replied that he is throwing ganga water towards Kartarpur, Amritsar,Punjab where his farms are existing. Pandits said this ganga water can not reach to farms in Kartarpur.. Then Guru Ji clarified that accordingly your action of throwing ganga water to your hosts( Pitters) is not possible because Kartarpur is very nearest comparatively to the distance of sun. Thus given the great message to Pandits that YOU SHOULD SERVE YOUR PARENTS WHILE THEY ARE LIVING .
In memory of this extraordinary incident with Pandits, a Gurudwara was made/constructed here at Ganga Ji bank which was demolished during 1979 under a Govt Plan of SUNDRIKARN (Beautification & Development). Therefore afterwards, after doing many struggles by sikh community, during 2003, Government allotted 50,000 Sq.Ft. land near Prem Nagar Pull (Bridge) and Govindpuri, Haridwar.
Sikh community is ready to construct a Memorial Guru Gyan Godri Gurudwara as soon as required govt.orders received.
