Designed c. 1907 in the Tudor Revival style as a Medieval château by Edward Pearce Casey for Stephen Howland Brown. Brown also owned an estate called "Solana" in Matinecock on Long Island. In 1932, the townhouse was purchased by the Gardner School, an exclusive private girls’ school.
It is now owned by Manhattan High School for Girls, a private Jewish school.
