Residence built c. 1900 in the Neo-Colonial style on originally 3 acres of land for John Francis O'Rourke, Sr {capitalist}. O'Rourke served as president of O'Rourke Engineering & Construction Co. His company was responsible for constructing the Pennsylvania Railroad/Long Island Rail Road East River Tunnels and the foundations for the New York Stock Exchange and Equitable Building among others. He also served as a professor at Cooper Union in New York City and Commodore of the Manhasset Bay Yacht Club. By 1907, he and his wife Katharine had relocated to 8 West 50th Street in Manhattan.

The estate was inherited by his son Innis O'Rourke, Sr {industrialist, capitalist}. O'Rourke served as founder of Concrete Conduit Corp, and president of J. & L. O'Rourke Construction Company. The home has been extensively altered over time.
