This spot is roughly the former site of NASA's water pool for Apollo Command Module splashdown testing. Over the site was a gigantic steel legged frame which was used to suspend and swing the Command Module testing capsules. A similar steel structure can be seen today at NASA's Langley center in Virginia, which is being used for the next generation of Orion capsules. Just north of this site, was a dirt area which was where surface drop-testing of the command modules was performed, with a large crane speeding down the former runways at the site, and dropping the module. The dirt squares seen to the north west in the current satellite image are where parts of these runway were.
