This was the second location of Grapevine. When the Ridge Route Alternate, as US-99 (later I-5) was known, was opened, the businesses at the Ridge Route site of Grapevine relocated here. There was a Union 76 service station, garage, a twelve cottage motor hotel, post office, seven homes, and a restaurant with bar.

The site proved dangerous as many accidents occurred here due to vehicle brake failure coming down the grade. The worst of these happened in September 1949 when a twenty-ton truck loaded with engine blocks plowed through six parked cars, hit the gas station, and swept more cars into the canyon behind the station. Two were killed and many injured, and half the town burned from the fire caused by the accident.

This site closed and relocated in the early 1960s when the highway was expanded to eight lanes.
