Reportedly established before WWII by a Mr. Mallicoat, it was originally used to train military pilots. During WWII it, along with nearby Victory Field, became an auxillary landing field. Later, after the air field closed down, US Tire (Uniroyal) purchased the land and built a 3,500' diameter circular test track to test their tires. This track was purchased by Dodge during the '60s and used until Dodge moved to other facilities in the desert during the '70s. Some sections were paved for use by model airplane enthusiasts.

Comments

  • The former field and track have been completely fenced off because of the Lancaster WRP expansion project, due to be completed in 2011. The small road leading into the area, located at the northeast corner, was ripped out. The best view of the former Uniroyal track is looking south while driving down Ave. B.
