Ada Bojana

Serbia and Montenegro / Montenegro / Ulcinj /

The island is created by river delta of Bojana River. It is an artificial island, formed by gathering river sand around ship sunk at the mouth of Bojana river. It is located on the southernmost tip of Montenegro, only Bojana river separating it from Albanian territory.

The island is of triangular shape, bordered from two sides by Bojana river, and by Adriatic Sea from south-west. It has an area of 4,8 square km.

It is a popular tourist destination, with 3 km long sandy beach and many fish restaurants that in a traditional way catch fish. It is also one of the most "official" naturist beaches in the country.

  • Very cool and relaxing place. Has great nad very big nude beach. The only hotel on the island is in terrible condition. People who work in a hotel are great, though. Roads to the place are not good either, not many signs to the place; you would need to know where are you going. However, is it a good place to visit since the nature is wonderful.
  • The sand is said to be slightly radioactive which gives it certain healing properties. Strong winds are frequent and they make rest on the beach less pleasant as they carry sand which is not always nice. The beach needs thorough cleaning as the sea brings heaps of rubbish. The old part of the hotel - teepee-like huts - are all locked and, it seems, doomed. Yet the newer part is far better. The only shop is sort of poor but you can ask the assistant for whatever you need and she'll try to bring it on the next day. The restaurant in the admonistration building seems rather unimaginative for Montenegro but then, one can always walk one kilometer or so, down to the bridge where there's a dosen or so of very nice fish restaurants (other food is of course also available but the fish and seafood dishes are especially advisable). One should be advised against visiting the administration building, the restaurant and the shop in the nude, whereas clothed people are not very much welcome on the beach.
  • The beach seems to be very broad on this satellite photo but in fact it is just a hew meters wide (and sometimes just about two meters or so) away from the territory close to the naturist village itself (where the beach is also life-guarded and the safe sea territory is marked with buoys), because of waves-brought rubbish and thorny plants which cober vast areas near the seaside. It is OK to walk along the sea but bathing away from the official plage is at one's own risk. No shade throughout the beach, so take care not to get sunburns, too.
