Within Room 153 is a 135ft long barrel-vaulted long coffered gallery which was designed by McKim, Mead & White. Additionally, part of the gallery is situated in an arched, brick space located below the Grand Staircase which was designed by Richard Morris Hunt in 1895. The gallery is reminiscent of the Bibliothèque du Roi in Paris.
