44 Berkeley Square is a Grade I listed building from 1740 in Mayfair. The building was built by William Kent for Lady Isabella Finch, Countess of Winchelsea, a courtier in the court of Georges I & II and friend to Queen Caroline.
Isabella Finch was a famous Bluestocking and Crypto-Catholic. She had her architect William Kent create a secret Catholic Chapel in the basement which over 200 years later, in 1963, Mark Birley transformed into Annabel’s.
The building was home to Annabel's since 1963 and The Claremont Club.
The Clermont Club closed in March 2018 and Annabel’s moved to 46 Berkeley Square also in 2018.
Now 44 Berkeley Square is an exclusive party venue and available for hire. The space has retained many of its original features from the staircase, to the twinkling star-lit dance floor and Buddha Bar. The collection of paintings, drawings and vintage posters still adorn the walls.
