ruins, archaeological site, monastery, Medieval / Middle Ages, Order of Cistercians
The site of Inch Abbey. The original Celtic monastery was centered on the northern portion of the archaeological site and is partly covered by the old graveyard, while the later Cistercian Abbey was centered on the southern portion. The ruins of the Cistercian Abbey are very impressive, most notably those of the choir, presbytery, and north and south transepts of the church; the remainder of the abbey's structures mostly survive in terms of their foundations.
