The cathedral of Down is dedicated to the Holy and Undivided Trinity. A church dedicated to the Trinity already existed here in the 12th century. It was destroyed in 1541. The round tower that stood near the ruined cathedral was torn down in 1790. The same year the rebuilding of the cathedral began; it was opened to use in 1818.
