The District at Market Street (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

USA / New Jersey / Camden / Philadelphia, Pennsylvania / Market Street, 801
office building, interesting place, Art Deco (architecture)

Longtime home of Strawbridge & Clothier, a fixture of Philadelphia retail (later known as Strawbridge's from about 1996 on). The grand department store was designed c. 1931 by Simon & Simon as a redevelopment of the various older buildings Strawbridge & Clothier owned, and connected to the Gallery at Market East shopping mall in 1977. The department store closed permanently in 2006 with the remainder of the chain once its parent company, May Department Stores, was acquired by Federated (now Macy's Inc.).

In 2014, part of the space became retail with the opening of Century 21. Other non-retail offices occupy the large space.
