ruins, trestle (bridge), interesting place, railroad crossing
(Position is approximate.)
Pilings from a former elevated railroad trestle over Evergreen Highway. It carried a spur line going to Smith's Umpqua Quarry directly to the north (now part of Fisher's West) where the boulders for the Columbia River north and south jetties were mined. The spur was discontinued in the early 1990s and replaced by the truck access road it parallels, and the line and trestle were removed near the end of the decade when the quarry was expanded. If you look at the side of the north piling you can still see very faded remnants of a painted sign advertising "CRUSHED ROCK FOR SALE".
