railway station, historical layer / disappeared object
The location of what was formerly Bournemouth West Station, otherwise known as Westbourne Station. Opened in 1874, it was Bournemouth's second railway station and closed in 1965. It was situated opposite the Midland Hotel in Queens Road.
It was the terminus of the Midland / S & D J Railways, being the arrival point in Bournemouth for people from all over the UK - especially the Midlands & North of England - as opposed to the 'natural' London & South West Railway catchment area (ie the 'Home Counties')
