The Boyce Building was commissioned by William D. Boyce as the headquarters for the W.D. Boyce Publishing Company. Designed by D.H. Burnham & Co. and Christian Eckstorm, it was constructed in stages, beginning in 1911. It was also the birthplace of the Boy Scouts of America. There is a sign to that effect on the southeast corner
