The narrow neck of land on the west bank of the Mississippi, jutting eastward. The river ultimately broke thru at Waterproof in 1884 shifted the main channel to the west, leaving a series of narrowed watercourses marking the old river bed to the east. Coles Point eventually merged with the east bank but remains Louisiana territory.
