In 1966, electronics manufacturer Clairtone, constructed, with the assistance of the Government of Nova Scotia, a 315,000 sq. ft. factory employing 1,200, to produce stereos and colour television sets. Unfortunately, television sales were disappointing and the plant was taken over by Nova Scotia's economic development agency Industrial Estates Limited. By 1970 the government took over the corporation and following additional loses the company closed in 1972.

In 2014, the property was purchased by Vida Cannabis for $500,000 from the Town of Stellarton, having made application to Health Canada to become a Licenced Producer of medical marihuana. Work commenced on a $12 million renovation of the building but Vida Cannabis has yet to receive a Producer's Licence.
