In the middle of river Moell valley, above Kolbnitz and north of the river, an interesting, quite high hill rises. From a distance it looks that the hill closes the whole valley, so due to its 'strategic' position it was important since prehistoric times on. By the St. Daniel church, standing on the highest point, its name is Danielsberg.

The oldest human traces on Danielsbergu can be dated in neolithic time. Rock blocks on the summit plateau, just before we reach to the church, are artificially carved ('Schalensteine'). Schollars assume that on that nice place rituals were conducted in which animals were sacrificed. By the church also stone tools an ceramic was found. Later on the hill a bronze age settlement evolved, then Celts were living on the hill in the iron age, having nearby ore mines. After Celts Ancient Romans came. They also valued highly the strategic summit plateau, where there's even a water source. Romans named the place Colomunitio, which means a fortified hill. From those times remains of Hercules temple were found. Already in 313 on the hill the first Christian chapel stood. The today's church on the highest point was erected in 1127 and was later a few times renovated.
