Karar Ashram is founded by Swami Sri Yukterswar Giri on 22nd March 1903. In order to teach Kriya Yoga for the simultaneous all round development of body, mind, intellect and soul with the ultimate attainment of God realization as taught by Mahaavatar Sri Babaji and Sri Lahiri Mahasaya. Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri was the founder president and Sadhusabhapati from 22.03.1903 to 09.03.1936 after him Paramahansa Yogananda became the second president and Sadhusabhapati from from 22.03.1936 to 07.03.1952. Thereafter Swami Satyananda Giri was the third president and Sadhusabhapati from 07.03.1952 to 02.08.1971. Then Swami Hariharananda Giri was the fourth president and Sadhusabhapati from 02.08.1971 to 22.03.1983. At present Swami Yogaswarananda Giri is the fifth president and Sadhusabhapati from 22.03.1983 and till is continuing.
The main objective of this ashram is Kriya Yoga Teaching and Learning.
