Marine Air Terminal - LaGuardia Airport Terminal A (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York
Streamline Moderne (architecture), NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, interesting place, Art Deco (architecture), airport terminal, New Deal Depression Relief Project [1933-1945]

The Marine Air Terminal was LaGuardia airport's original terminal. It is so named because it once served the flying boats of Pan American Airways, the mainstay of international travel during the 1930s and 1940s. It remains the only active airport terminal dating from the first generation of passenger travel in the United States--the "Golden age of the flying boat." The Marine Air Terminal is an Art Deco building designed in 1939 by Delano & Aldrich. The interior features a 230' WPA mural entitled "Flight" by James Brooks which depicts the history of aeronautical aspirations.

Today, the terminal handles Delta Express, air taxis, commuter flights and private operations. It was restored in 2005 Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners.
