A small neighbourhood north of Riverdale that is named after George Playter, a United Empire Loyalist officer who was granted about 500 acres of land in Toronto in 1793 following the American Revolution, and who was one of the earliest settlers in the city.
His grandson John Lea Playter built the famous Playter Farmhouse in the 1870's, which is the centerpiece and icon of this upper middle-class neighbourhood.
