Mondelēz Canada Inc. was established in 2012 after Kraft Foods Company spun off their grocery portfolio. This new global snacks company includes:
Christie (cookies, crackers), which was part of the Nabisco business acquired by Philip Morris Companies in 2000 and merged with Kraft Foods in 2001
Cadbury (chocolate, gum, candy), which was acquired by Kraft Foods Company in 2010

In 1949, English biscuit make, Peek Frean, established their Canadian plant at this location in the former Township of East York. Bermondsey Road is named after the Bermondsey District of South London, England, the home of the Peek Frean factory. After a name change to Associated Biscuits in 1972, the company was acquired by Nabisco Brands in 1983. It in turn was bought by RJ Reynolds Food Division to form RJR Nabisco. The plant was sold to Kraft as part of the famous leveraged buyout of RJR Nabisco by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts in 1985.
