Sharpness Docks (Old Entrance)

Prior to the 1870's there were no cargo handling facilities at Sharpness; all ships entered the canal here and proceeded straight up the canal to Gloucester.

The entrance and locks were reopened during World War Two in case of damage to the main entrance, but are now closed again, the approach arm serving as small craft moorings.
