temple, ruins, archaeological site
The Temple of Athena is the most important shrine of the city. Only five of the re-erected columns are standing today to indicate the temple's original dimensions. It was dedicated in 334 B.C by Alexander the Great who made an inscription on the foundation (image 2). The temple was constructed by the architect, Pytheos, who favored the Ionic order and also constructed the Mausoleum at Halikarnassos.
