The Great Neck Preparatory School was founded by Mrs. Morgan Grace in 1923 to provide a solution for wealthy families who wished to send their children away to preparatory schools. Mrs. Grace donated ten acres of land on Steamboat Road and $50,000 to establish a school. B. Lord Buckley was brought on to establish the curriculum. Leading Great Neck families from Kensington, King's Point, and Great Neck Estates chose to send their children here as opposed to other institutions like Hotchkiss or Avon Old Farms. At first there was discrimination against Jewish students from enrolling, however Mrs. Grace insisted on an open enrollment policy. in the 1950's the school moved to what is now North Hills to become the Buckley School which still exists today.

The former site of the school has since been redeveloped into homes. Some notable alumni include Gene Buck, Cord Meyer, and Ring Lardner, Jr.
