BERİT Mountain

BERİT Mountain or BERİT DAĞ is a high mountain group with 3 peaks just north of legendary Zeytoun mountain village in Maraş Province of South central Anatolia in the Republic of Turkey. This mountain's highest peak is 3054 meters in altitude and it is snow-capped 7 months out of the year. From the 16th century until 1915, the native Zeytoun Armenians who lived under the shadows of BERİT Mountain for almost 900 years used to mine and extract iron ore from the mountains rich ore mines high on the southern and eastern slopes of the mountain. Zeytoun Armenians' main source of income was the production of iron from BERİT Mountain and this iron was sold all over Kilikya (Cilicia) and other major towns such as Adana, Aintep, Aleppo and Sivas. Nowadays it is a majestic mountain famous for its ski slopes and natural alpine wonders for mountain-climbers.
