  • I think i am right in assuming that some 45 years ago when we resided in Ceylon that this was known as the european swimming club and i too loved spending a great deal of time there (i was a bout 7 years old onwards to 11
  • I resided in Colombo from 1951 to 1954 and my parents and I were members during that period. When we left it was 55 years to the present day. At that time it was definately called the Colombo Swimming Club. I don't know whether it changed it's name to European swimming club after we left.
  • I lived in Colombo as a child between 1961-1965 and our family were members of the Colombo Swimming Club. I do not believe it was ever called the "European" swimming club, but it was definitely discreetly segregated. In Ceylon at that time, the term "European" was a polite euphemism for "Caucasian". I never saw any non-Caucasians at "the club", as it was known. The scary thing is that no-one was shocked...
