This former warehouse, known as the Ghost Ship, was the site of the 2016 Oakland warehouse fire. The "artists colony" and occasional rave cave was destroyed in a fire on December 2, 2016, killing 36 people. It was the deadliest building fires in the United States and the deadliest in California since the 1906 earthquake.
