More About Purwakarta
The government has embarked upon a great effort in developing tourist resort in Purwakarta. The effort is basically a kind of interdisciplinary and participation by applying economic criteria, agronomy technique, socio culture, energy saving, environment and nature conservation. This effort is commenced through Regional Tourism Development Program with the aim to improve regional tourist resort by developing tourism infrastructure based on nature potency, like lake resort, mount resort, and agrarian resort and also by conserving archeology sites. The following are tourist resort condition and potency in Kabupaten Purwakarta:
Nature Tourist Resort
1. Jatiluhur Resort
Jatiluhur resort, located 9 km from Purwakarta town, is well know by its water power plant with lake scenery of 3187 ha. The resort provides us with sufficient recreation resorts, like hotel and bungalow, bar and restaurant, tennis court, billiard, camping area, swimming pool, meeting room, water recreation, playground and any other facilities. Sport and water recreations are like paddle sport, water surfing, boat, water ski, boating etc.
Jatiluhur ResortIr. H. Juanda dam consist of six turbines with 187 MW and produce electricity of 1000 million kWh every year. Moreover, the dam also produces irrigation water for 242000 ha rice fields (twice plantation/year), water to drink, fishery, and flood control.
In the future, Jatiluhur is forecasted to be an exclusive tourist resort, full of adequate tourist infrastructure since it has been planned in Jatiluhur development program. The government has given opportunity to private investor to develop the tourist resort in Jatiluhur such as, golf yard, Marina, Pondok Remaja/athlete house, fishing area and games area, fish cultivation, floated hotels and restaurants, hand craft centre, tourist village, water recreation, swimming pool, water park resort, and grass track.
However, floated net fish cultivation has been an attractive sector for the visitors. In any time, day or night anybody can fish through the night and enjoys the grilled fish. This agro-tourism is located 7km from the city of Purwakarta.
In this area, we can also see the earth satellite station governed by PT. Indosat as international standard communication equipment. Indosat has provided some services for this like International toll free service (ITFS), Indosat Calling Card (ICC), international direct etc.

2. Cirata Lake Tourist Resort
Cirata is well known as a potential power plant, which has 62km width and maximum height of 220mCirata Lake above the sea and surrounded by the hills. Hydro power plant industry of West Java (Pikitrdro Jabar) is one of State-owned Electricity Company (PLN) which has developed Cirata Power Plant project which produces 1008 MW electricity and can generate electricity of 1428 million kilowatt/year.
When we do the traveling to Plered from Purwakarta, we can reach Cirata in 40 minutes for 15km distance. On the way to Cirata, we can find Peuyeum Bendul (fermented cassava from Bendul) trade center and other typical food from Purwakarta, ceramics industry center, and also enjoy the beautiful nature scenery in Plered.
Cirata Lake has 8 turbines and one central building/Power House which has 4 floors situated in the underground side and operated by a switchyard control room 2km from each generator machine in power house. The powerhouse and the turbines have been the most attractive things for the visitor.
However, the lake is seen very potential for the fishery development, this is based on the census result in 1999 that there existed 27906 floated net fishponds (KJA). This type of fishery cultivation is situated in Kecamatan Maniis, 17km from Purwakarta.
Cirata area is scattered around three kabupaten; Purwakarta, Cianjur and Bandung. It comprises of the land and water area with its interesting nature scenery, which are potential to be developed as a business outside electricity. The land can be developed into 270 ha descended land and 330 ha mainland in which palawija, rice, and others are planted by the people near to the area. Another potential development lies in tourism and agro business, which are still wide open for investors to further develop the area.

3. Mount Parang
Mount Parang is a famous location for all the nature adventurers, especially for those who like cliff climbing. This is because the cliff structure is interesting and challenging. The climbers have usually climbed here to practice their skills. There was a saying that a cliffhanger is not yet a cliffhanger unless they have climbed Mount Parang.
Mount Parang is located in Kecamatan Tegalwaru near ceramics industry in Plered when we travel from Purwakarta. Mount Parang can be clearly seen from Jatiluhur Lake, stand erected challenging the entire cliffhanger to come and climb it.

4. Wanayasa Lake
Wanayasa Lake, located 23km from Purwakarta, has a fresh nature air and scenery. This lake is seen very potential to be developed as recreation park and tourist resort.
In the meantime, 8 km from Wanayasa Lake we can find a geo thermal water center in Ciracas located in the middle of green rice fields with fresh and cool air to breathe. The geo thermal water center at Ciracas can be developed into some tourist resort like hotel, bungalow, swimming pool and other recreation parks. Besides, there also exists a waterfall called Curug Cipurut, a cozy place for recreation, hiking, or camping. To reach Curug Cipurut, we have to walk down for 3km towards south part of Wanayasa city.
Agro tourism can be developed in Wanayasa since it has lots of nature agriculture commodities like tea, manggis, and pala, and we also can have a garden party while enjoying the fruits, roasted meat, and other. The above tourist resorts are waiting for investors to develop the area.

5. Situ Buleud (Round Lake)
Situ Buleud’s width is 4ha located in the middle of Purwakarta town with an interesting background of classic architecture Kresidenan Building. Once upon a time in a story, Situ Buleud is a place for rhinoceros to bathe or swim when it’s still surrounded by the forest. Then it had been further developed and used by the colonial Dutch Government as a place to rest after work.
RA Suriawinata, the founder of Purwakarta region, had once started the development of Situ Buleud in year 1830. Nowadays, Situ Buleud has become a sport center park for the people. The government highly expected that in the future this resort could be developed to be a nice wonderful city park, central of tourist resort and town. Investors are highly welcome to develop this resort.
