Mitton Chapel Bridge (Number 7) (Stourport-on-Severn)

United Kingdom / England / Kidderminster / Stourport-on-Severn / Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal Towpath

When the canal was built, this bridge would have led to Mitton Chapel, but that disappeared in the late 18th century, when a new parish church was built to serve the growing town of Stourport-on-Severn. That church was replaced in late Victorian times by another, and in turn (rather surprisingly perhaps) that was replaced by the present modern St. Michael's Church, the later being built within the partially demolished outside walls of the previous. Today Mitton Chapel Bridge leads to public footpaths which traverse the church grounds of St. Michael's but the bridge has kept its original name. -Adapted from Geograph.
