The border between Calexico, California and Mexicali California is composed of a fence separating these two cities and in order to get through one must have been born in America or have a permit that states they can visit in California. It is a symbol of separation and to those living in Mexicali, usually take it as the American dream where life is easier given that there are much more opportunities. Over time is has become harder for people to be able to get permission to work and stay as residents due to the population expanding. In today’s time we hear more about in the ways immigrants take about jobs and should be deported.

The fence especially, to those that are not able to cross legally is the only way they are able to get to see their loved ones in person. They can go up to the fence and wait for their family member or even friends to appear to get a chance to talk since physical contact is not something they can do. Families may gather at the fence and to one that simply passes by and sees them may not cross our minds that it is unfortunate not to be able to see or even hug the other person because of a fence.

This monument represents a separation of cultures and inclusive language. Each one within them have different beliefs of the border and whether or not it is right or wrong, however the cultural differences can help learn from each other in order to grow together.
