A portion of Seney NWR consists of a bog called Strangmoor Bog. It is considered the best surviving example in the 48 contiguous states of a sub-arctic patterned bog ecosystem, characterized by rapid glacial melt-off from an exposed sandy plain. The bog is designated a National Natural Landmark.
