The "Seney Stretch" is an approximately 25 mile stretch of M-28 from Seney to Shingleton. This stretch is a straight line run along the northern boundary of the Seney Wildlife Refuge. There are lots and lots of trees here, but not much else.

  • I've heard that this stretch of road is so flat, long, and relativily untraveled (compared to other areas of the country) that it is an emergency space shuttle landing area.
  • That stretch of road is used more than you might think. It's the only main drag between the more populated eastern and north western parts of the UP. Space shuttles, no. But, rumors around here are that it could also have served as an emergency landing strip for aircraft in times of war. That was then. Now the trees are filling in and it is too narrow to safely land most aircraft. You can still see how far back the trees used to be cut in some spots as you drive by. :)
