Watlington Station is close to the banks of the Great River Ouse and is the primary rail access point for the people of the small village of Watlington. Trains run to the area as part of the Fen Line from Cambridge to King’s Lynn.

The station was originally opened as Watlington on 27 Oct 1846, being renamed to Magdalen Road on 1 June 1875. On 9 Sep 1968 the station closed, but due to local pressure was reopened on 5 May 1975. On 3 Oct 1989 the station reverted back to its original name of Watlington.

The original station platforms were opposite each other on the south side of the level crossing, however the station building on the Up platform (the eastern side) was sold into private hands during the period of closure, which required a new platform to be constructed north of the level crossing in order to reopen the station, hence the now staggered arrangement of the platforms. The old Up platforms can still be observed as a raised area east of the Up (Cambridge-bound) line.
